Say Hello to your Friends

. . . Baby-Sitters Club!

I just had a very difficult decision to make while dropping off my library book returns today.  I spotted four Baby-Sitters Club VHS tapes on sale for 25 cents each.  I had a dollar in my wallet and seriously contemplated it!  Then I remembered Justin and I don't have a VHS player.

I had what some might say an "unhealthy" obsession with Baby-Sitters Club.  Then again, that obsession is probably tied with Sweet Valley High - and I own Season One of that show on DVD.  And if Justin and I ever got pregnant with twin girls, I'd name them Elizabeth and Jessica, no question.

But back to the BSC obsession.  Seeing those videos for sale spiraled me right back to my summers as a pre-teen.  Back before the Golds Gym in Fairfax Station was a Food Lion, it was originally a Crown Books.  The place I fed this habit.  I owned every single book in the series, read them more than once, and was never more excited when a Super Special was coming out.

Seriously, so many things remind me of BSC on a regular basis:

Whenever I see escargot on a menu, I think of Super Special #5, when the BSC goes to California and Claudia goes on a date with a really smart Asian boy, and she pretends to be smart too.

When I went to the beach as a kid, I wanted it to be just like Sea City.  Including that restaurant they always went to, The Burger Garden.  Don't ask why, just did.

If I EVER actually saw "a full white skirt with the words Paris, Rome, and London in sketchy pink and blue pictures of the Eiffel Tower, the Tower Bridge," aka what Mary-Anne wore to the dance in Logan Likes Mary-Anne, THAT I would  NOT hesistate to buy, unlike those VHS tapes today.

For your viewing pleasure: a youtube video of the television theme song.  You can "Say Hello to your Friends" too!

I really need to see if BSC: The Movie is on Netflix.  Like now.
