Baby Watts = Future Book Hoarder

I'm proud to say our baby is only four months in the womb and already has a growing library! That's what you get for having an English teacher for a mom.  I can already tell we have a future book hoarder on our hands.

First, my friend Sarah, and fellow English major, sent us an adorable board book called Peek-a-Who? by Nina Laden.  It's a guessing game, set up so that one one page you just see a print, for example, a cow print, and it says "Peek-a" and on the next page, "Moo!"  All of the peek-a's rhyme with who, which is so great for teaching rhyme at an early age.  However, I'm a bit concerned about the inferring abilities of our future offspring, since Justin didn't guess a single one right!  Another good reason to have an English teacher for a mom.

Our second addition was partly my idea.  Carl Hiaasen is one of my favorite authors and he happens to live in Vero Beach.  If you've never read him, you're missing out!  He writes adult and young adult novels that are absolutely hilarious.  He is such an entertaining writer, and he spins these crazy webs of a story that you can't believe all fits together in the end, but always does.  And all of his books take place in Florida!  He had a book signing in Vero Beach in mid-April for his new young adult book, Chomp.  Unfortunately, I couldn't make it out there that night, but I hinted to my Fairy Godmother Pauline that it would be the perfect baby gift.  Not only does our baby have a growing library, but it's first signed book!

So cool!  Apparently the baby can start to hear our voices around week 22, so I'm going to read the book aloud to the little peanut.

Some other books I know I will have to add to the library:

Go, Dog, Go! by P.D. Eastman
Believe me, the dog party at the end is totally worth it.  This is my go-to gift to expecting moms.

The Sailor Dog by Margaret Wise Brown
I think my need for organizing my closet comes from the excerpt below: "He put his hat on the hook for his hat, and his rope on the hook for his rope . . ." you get the idea.  Plus Scuppers is the cutest dog ever.

Anything Berenstain Bears - but especially Meet Santa Bear.  I still remember Sister Bear asked for this amazing pink pony and she got it Christmas Day!  I don't know how many years I wished I could have the same pink pony.

The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.  The jolly postman delivers letters to all of the characters in fairy tales, and the coolest part is, you get to take the letters out of their envelopes and read them!

Everything by Roald Dahl - my favorite was Matilda.  I totally related to her, since I could read at an early age too.  I spent many an hour trying to move things with my mind, I'll admit it.

I'd love to hear about all of your favorites, too!
